From Sugar to Sick in 24 Hours

Question of the day (possibly question of the century).... can excessive sugar intake lead to a very sick and grumpy Casey? Perhaps.

I woke up with a sore throat and a stuff nose.
Which, I figured, was the equivalent to a hangover -- but for a sugar overdose (Thanks, Ghirardelli!)

I actually felt the need to do some form of physical activity, but I knew I had to keep it light... so I didn't end up passed out on the side of a road (with my nose running all over the place - gross).

So, I met up with some friends for some Vinyasa Flow at our local Yoga to the People!  I've posted about this before.
Sadly, I haven't been back to the studio since that last post -- so un-namaste of me.

The class was exactly what I needed, except for the fact that downward dogs may cause snot to drip into your eyeballs... sorry for the visual.

I came back HUNGRY and in need of some serious soup.
Whenever you're sick, I feel like you immediately revert back to your two-year-old self... which explains my cravings for my dad's chineese noodle soup.  Unfortunately, I was...
1. too lazy to make it
2. too dumb to figure out a probably-super-easy recipe
3. I had to get to work in under 30 minutes.

So, I made my own soup -- water, chicken bouillon, shiritaki noodles, peas, butternut squash, tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach.  Seasoned with a little bit of salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and sesame oil.

Ohhh, look at all the pretty colors :)
And, guys, I am NOT one of those people who lose their appetite when they're sick.  No sir, I would have to say my body works in the opposite fashion -- hence, the big big big portions!!

After my first 4 hour shift at work (imagine how bright and bubbly I was.... don't worry, no innocent people were harmed... just dumb ones), I came back and wanted an even comfier food for dinner.

Yes, I tend to like things "comfy"... my elastic waist-banded pants, my food... don't judge.
Oatmeal. Sweet potatoes.  In a bowl.

perfection.

I may or may not have doubled the oatmeal portion....
and one other weird fact:

I may or may not have blown my nose... and had a huge piece of spinach come out (like a full leaf). Which makes me wonder: do I ever chew my food? AND, is it weird that I though this phenomenon was extremely cool and I proceeded to text everyone on my contact list about it?????

I HAVE A REALLY YUMMY RECIPE THAT WILL SOLVE YOUR I-BOUGHT-6-POUNDS-OF-NUTS-FROM-COSTCO-JUST-BECAUSE PROBLEM!!!

off to spin class :) later guys - have a great sunday

  1. Thank you for sharing this recipie, I made this tonight, and it was amazing!! I am am going to freeze the leftover miso mixture in an ice cube tray for easy measurement in the future. For soft boiled eggs place eggs in 1″ boiling water, cover and cook for 6 minutes exactly, and they come out perfectly. Thanks again! Techlazy.com Crazyask.com Howmate.com

  2. I love cooking with my kids. We typically make cookies or muffins but my oldest daughter (11yrs) has begun to help me with making dinner. She loves chopping vegetables.

  3. Long-time reader, first-time commenter – This recipe is brilliant! I’ve made it 4 times now with a few different variations each time (e.g. substituting the tofu for pork or chicken) and every time it’s turned out beautifully. It’s almost as good as my local ramen place. Thanks for this! It’s getting me through the long winter.
